Associated Students Sticker Contest - 2024
Program: Associated Students ; Client: Alex S. ; New Design ; Due Date: April 5th
Problem:
Create a design focused on the Associated Students and tie into student life.
The design must be 2”x3.5” circle, square, or custom shape and include branding
Inspiration:
I also wanted to include the four values at the AS and create corresponding illustrations to each. These values include: Wellness, Diversity, Service, and Sustainability.
Concept 1:
The first illustration was focused on Wellness. I had the idea of doing a meditating tea cup, and found an illustration similar, but I didn't like the mug.
Instead I swapped out the mug for a teacup and created the illustration above!
Concept 2:
The second illustration was focused on Diversity. The challenge was to create the right graphic to express diversity without choosing the wrong thing. I decided to go with the Earth since it contains all the countries in the world and I used the Earth graphic I created from a past project.
To keep the originality of the Earth design for the other project, I decided to take out the flower and replace it with a flag containing the AS logo. The colors would also be changed as well.
Concept 3:
The third illustration was focused on Service. Another challenge was to figure out which service to focus on. I did some research on the acts of service we do at the Associated Students through CAVE and narrowed it down to Habitat for Humanity and Chico Creek Clean Up.
After discussing with the Marketing Coordinator on ideas for this illustration, we decided to do a hammer. I researched online for hammers and found the image on the left to fit with what I wanted to accomplish.
Concept 4:
The last illustration was focused on Sustainability. I knew exactly how I wanted to execute this one with the reusable cups on campus. In a past project, I worked with Dining to create graphics for a Reusable Cup Campaign. I remembered the cups we used for the design, so I thought it was a great way to promote the Sustainability character.
I traced over the cup, added some facial features, and included the arms and legs. I think incorporating the ‘wink’ made the character more fun and inviting.
Solution:
To incorporate some of our branding colors in the final design, the shoes and an extra item were changed to red and gray. In the final design, I included wellness, diversity,, service, and sustainability - the four values of the Associated students.
As part of the AS Student Sticker Contest, the entire Associated Students voted on three different stickers.
Happily, my sticker won by two votes.
